Mottukal - Shelter Home for Disadvantaged Children

The home was started mainly to provide shelter and support to underprivileged girl children, including runaways, orphans, and semi-orphans. The sisters give the short-stay facilities, counselling, educational support, family reintegration, and vocational training in order to have a dignified life. The sisters reach out to needy children and girls through Outreach Programs. This initiative addresses the needs of vulnerable children in Chennai slums, working to prevent runaway cases. It mobilizes communities to affirm their rights, strengthen family bonds, and support children’s education. The program also facilitates reintegration for runaway girls through short-stay protection.

Training Centre -Empowering the Marginalized

This initiative specifically aims to support adolescent girls and women from our working areas, offering them opportunities to build a better future. The centre provides training in computer skill and tailoring, equipping  girls with practical skills that can open doors to employment and self-sufficiency.

Computer Training Program

We are pleased to share the successful completion of the 5-month Computer Training Programme conducted from March to July 2025. This initiative was launched by the Good Shepherd Training Centre in collaboration with the Catholic Women Fellowship (CWF). The programme aimed to equip participants with essential digital literacy and computer skills, enhancing both their personal development and employment prospects.

A total of 19 students enrolled in the programme, out of which 14 successfully completed the course. The training covered key areas including basic computer operations, MS Office applications, internet usage, digital communication, billing tools, and an introduction to online safety.

On 2nd August 2025, a certificate distribution ceremony was held to mark the successful completion of the course. A highlight of the event was the sharing of experiences by three students who had already secured job placements. Their testimonies reflected the positive impact of the training and expressed gratitude for the support and guidance they received.

Simultaneously, a new batch of 25 girls and women were present for enrollment, ready to begin their journey into the digital world. The event was marked by appreciation, encouragement, and motivation for the students to continue developing their skills with confidence.

The occasion was graced by the Good Shepherd Sisters, CWF members, and donors. Sr. Aruna, the Superior and Correspondent of Good Shepherd Convent, Chennai, delivered an inspiring message on the transformation brought about by the training centre. She thanked the CWF for their continued support and encouraged the students to move forward with determination and self-belief.

This milestone stands as a testament to our ongoing commitment to empowering individuals through skill-based education and creating pathways to a brighter, more self-reliant future.
