Good Shepherd Convent Chennai

Salem

Salem Ayothiapattinam

The mission in Salem began in response to the needs of marginalized communities – especially women, children, and school dropouts. It started with a survey, followed by the launch of tailoring classes, evening coaching in villages, and pastoral care. The Sisters also engaged in prison ministry, visited mentally challenged and street children, and supported women through small savings groups. By 2002, a permanent convent was established in Ayodhyapattanam. Our Sisters now conduct evening coaching classes in 15 surrounding villages, instilling values through education among underprivileged children. They collaborate with NGOs to promote justice, equality, and dignity through awareness programs, children’s parliaments, community meetings, small-scale businesses, and skill training.

This holistic approach continues to uplift and empower the underserved – especially women, girls, and families – toward a life of dignity and social respect.
